Installing Refillable Wide Format Printer Cartridges & using Bulk Inks:
Install Procedure:
(1) Refillable cartridges are supplied with chips, smart chip cards and silver identification labels for certain
printer models. If these are not pre-fitted to the refillable cartridges attach the chip, silver label or smart
chip cards in the exact same position as on a standard original ink cartridge to ensure cartridge recognition by
the printer (see below for further details on attaching chips and chip cards to refillable cartridges).
(2) Stand each refillable cartridge on a flat surface.
Protect the surface with paper in case of any minor ink spillage
during the filling process.
(3) Remove the stopper bung from the end of the refillable cartridge – the stopper bung is positioned on the top section
at the back end of the cartridge.
(4) Take a clean funnel - always use one funnel for each colour or type of ink.
Ensure that each funnel is dirt and
dust free before use; rinse funnel with clean water if necessary and allow to dry.
(5) Gently push the funnel into the hole from which the stopper bung has been removed.
If cartridges have smart chip cards attached please check that the correct colour ink is being used
before adding the ink.
(6) Pour ink from bottle through the funnel into the refillable cartridge.
Add around 200ml of ink to each cartridge
so that the cartridge is between 1/3 and 2/3 full.
Cartridges should never be overfilled and the ink level should
be at least 1 inch below the top of the cartridge.
(7) Replace bung stopper.
(8) Check visually that ink has filtered through to the front section of the refillable cartridge.
Gently tip the cartridge 20 or 30 degrees forwards to ensure ink is present in this front section.
(9) Leave each filled refillable cartridge to stand for a few minutes to allow ink to settle and any air to dissipate.
(10) Remove the existing ink cartridge(s) from the printer.
(11) Install each refillable cartridge into the printer in the same way as you would do with a standard ink cartridge.
(12) Once all refillable cartridges have been filled and installed into the printer perform a nozzle check.
Before printing again you should try and achieve a complete nozzle check pattern on every colour channel; perform a cleaning cycle or
two if required and do nozzle checks until a complete pattern is achieved. If there are still one or two
missing nozzles on the pattern these can usually be easily recovered during printing once the ink flow
is established by normal printer operation.
Adding Further Quantities of Ink to Refillable Cartridges:
(1) Monitor ink levels frequently to ensure that the printer never runs dry.
When ink levels in the refillable cartridge reach 1/3 capacity please top up with ink.
(2) Further amounts of ink can be added to each cartridge whilst they remain installed in the printer
but ideally whilst the printer is not printing and with the printer switched off.
The refillable cartridges can also be topped up by removing them from the printer and
following same procedure as described above.
Flushing your printer using Refillable Cartridges:
(1) If you are flushing the printer using a brand new or already used refillable cartridge follow the same procedure as
above to add fluid to each cartridge.
(2) If the cartridge has been used and therefore already contains some ink you should empty as much of this ink as possible from the cartridge before adding the flushing fluid.
(3) Once all the refillable cartridges are filled with flushing fluid to the levels as detailed above and
installed into the printer, perform head cleans. Using around 150 - 200ml of flushing solution on each
channel should ensure existing ink is completely flushed from the printing system.
(4) Remove refillable cartridges from printer, discard any unused flush fluid remaining in each cartridge
and then add ink to each following the procedure described above.
Replacing Smart Chip Cards.
(1) We supply high capacity chip cards for Agfa and Mutoh printers with each bottle of ink, these usually
allow at least one full litre of ink to be used before they run out.
(2) New chip cards are supplied with further ink bottles and these should be attached to the refillable cartridge
in the exact same position as the existing chip card.
(3) The new chip card should match the ink colour already being used in the cartridge – never switch ink colours
on a refillable cartridge without first flushing the cartridge fully as colour output could be affected.
(4) Carefully remove the existing chip card. New chip cards can be attached by using one or two strips of double
side tape on the back of each chip card.
(5) Attach new chip cards to each refillable cartridge in the same position as the previous ones. You can mark the correct position of each
chip card by drawing around it with a pen before removing it or alternatively we can supply a handy device known
as a “chip card positioning jig” to make this operation simple and as accurate as possible. Chip Jigs can be ordered
along with ink and chip cards on the relevant product pages of this website.
(6) Chip cards need to be in the correct position to ensure recognition by the printer.
(7) For Roland and Mimaki printers using chip recognition simply remove existing chip and slot the new chip
into the same position. Secure in place with a small amount of tape placed across the chip, ensuring that the
gold panels on the chip are not covered.
Colour Management:
ICC profiles are designed to provide optimum colour range and accurate colour reproduction when
using Digital Inks and Inkjet Media. We have been using and supplying Lyson inks since 1999 enabling Smart Inkjet
to fully support your purchase of Lyson Inks.
Lyson provide free ICC profiles for all of their inks, where required, which can be downloaded
from the technical area at www.lyson.com.
Use PhotoShop or ICC profile compatible software for high-end colour accuracy. Details of Nazdar's ink warranty backing for Lyson inks can also be found there.
Links to free ICC profiles provided by the manufacturers of the papers we supply can be
found on the relevant paper pages on this site.
There are 4 PDF documents available for download below to help you when using Lyson Inkjet Inks which
will also provide a more detailed understanding of colour management issues and solutions.
Please click on any of the titles below to select and download a PDF file (you will require Adobe Acrobat Reader
to view these documents). The file names should be self-explanatory as to their content.

What Are ICC Profiles?
Using ICC Profiles in PhotoShop
How to: Monitor Profiling
To request custom made ICC profiles please contact us at the e-mail address above or by telephone.
The cost of custom made ICC profiles ranges from approx. 40.00 to 100.00 UK POUNDS for 1 calibrated custom made desktop printer,
ink and paper profile. These ensure repeatable colour accurate output and are built around your own printers' unique
colour
reproduction attributes (every printer has a slight variance in the way that they print even when compared to other printers
of the same model). Custom made ICC Profiles allow your printer to
produce colour accurate and professional looking prints every time. Lyson provide free custom ICC profiles with
certain ink products which are detailed on the relevant pages of this site where available.
The majority of ITL inks are designed as a colour match for the original (OEM) inks on supported printer models.
Additional colour management or changes to existing colour set-ups should not be required, however, please do
contact us if you require assistance. Some free ICC profiles are now available on the
ITL website.
CIS Installation: If you need assistance with CIS installation please contact us at:

Warranty, Parts & Service: Nazdar (for Lyson inks) and ITL provide warranty support for their inks. Please contact us should you experience
any issues with these ink products. We are able to provide spare parts for many printer brands and models and we can
also help with servicing and printer maintenance at reasonable rates. Please contact us for further details on
